Advancing Innovative Pharmacological, Psychosocial, and Programme‑Based Interventions for Adult Sexual Offending within HMPPS
Workshop Abstract
The first workshop to be run by Olivia Henry and Julie Willis
The first workshop follows on from our Keynote presentation which introduces the System-Aware Biopsychosocial Model of Change. This interactive workshop intends to help delegates discover in greater depth how this conceptual framework is translated into practice. It aims to demonstrate how the core principles and values behind this rehabilitative approach are embedded from the initial assessment through to the end of an individual’s sentence. We aim to bring to life how the primary therapeutic tools and exercises used within the programme are tailored to individuals convicted of a sexual offence.
The second workshop to be run by Leanne Hanley
The second workshop introduces delegates to the Medication to Manage Problematic Sexual Arousal (MMPSA) service within His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS), which combines pharmacological and psychosocial interventions to support wellbeing and risk management. The session explores the evolution of the service, including how its trauma‑informed design has been shaped by lived experience, and shares key successes, challenges, and future plans following recent funding and policy developments—ideal for professionals in justice, health, and research seeking insight into innovative, evidence‑based practice.
